Behaviour

Even little kittens can develop a problem behaviour for one reason or another, but most of them can be corrected fairly easily with the right information. Even if your cat shows no problem behaviours, it doesn’t hurt to learn about them so when they arise in the future you can act quickly.

Scratching

Cat need to scratch. They have retractable claws, which means they have a sheath within their paws that the claws retract to. They need to shed these sheaths regularly so that new claws can grow. Another reason cats have such an urge to scratch is that there are scent glands locate din their paw pads. So, when they scratch, they are also identifying it as their own personal property.

Spraying

At the age of six months cats reach sexual maturity. At this time male cats may become aggressive and have some behaviourial problems. One such problem is spraying. This is when a cat backs up to an object and urinates on it. This is simply trying to show dominance. This spray has an extremely strong odor, and most people find it difficult to live with.

The smartest way to handle the problem of spraying is to stop it before it starts. Make sure your male cat is neutered as soon as possible. Talk to your vet for more information.
