Housebreaking Your Dog

Two popular methods include paper training and crate training. If you decide to paper train your pup, start by covering the floor of a single room with newspaper. Confine him to that room as much as possible, or, if you catch him in the act, pick him up and carry him to the “training” room. confining him to a single room as much as possible, cover the floor with newspaper you will teach him to eliminate inside, on a large floor area that is covered by newspaper. Once your puppy has caught on to this method, slowly start removing sections of the newspapered area, slowly shrinking the area he uses for eliminating until its about the size of one piece of paper. Eventually this process will move outdoors,

The first step in successfully carte training a puppy is to commit to a regular routine of taking your dog outside, so your puppy can learn that his chances to eliminate occur on a schedule basis. These trips outside should include once in the morning, once every hour during the day, and right before bed time. After you place him outside, give him some play time before placing him back into his crate.

Remember, accident DO happen, house training your new puppy will take an upwards of six to eight months. So be patient and enjoy the youth of your new family member!
