Traveling with Your Dog

Dogs & Traveling

First things first, before taking your dog on a vacation, be sure that he is up to date with all his vaccinations. If you are traveling internationally, you may have to obtain a certificate of health from your vet, but for trips that are close to home it is still always good to protect your dog from any diseases you may stumble upon along the way.

Before traveling, decide in advance which items you will need to bring for your dog. Some basic items would include food, water, a collar, his leash, some treats, a pooper scooper, and a small first aid kit. It’s also a great idea to bring a picture of your pup, in case he gets lost.

During this trip, it is very important that your dog gets as many chances as possible to relieve himself. He should not be deprived of food and water. Be respectful of other people and places by cleaning up after your dog and keeping him leashed.

If you’re traveling by car in the summertime, be sure not to leave your dog in the car. If you must leave him in the car for a short period of time be sure to leave the windows down a notch for ventilation. Once you’re on the move again, either close the windows or keep him in a crate to prevent possible injury to his eyes or ears.

By being prepared ahead of time, taking a vacation together can go off without a hitch. Don’t forget to have fun with your dog and enjoy the time together.
